La Charrette's Celebration of the return of Lewis & Clark's Corp. of Discovery,
Two hundred years later!
September 20, 2006

I was so fortunate to recently attend a 200 year celebration at Marthasville, acknowledging the September 20th, 1806 return of Lewis and Clark Expedition return to La Charrette. Those men who had departed two years earlier May 25, 1804, from the same location and who had been given up for dead. How awesome and joyous their return surely was! Can you imagine? I was able to live a little bit of history thanks to the organizers of the event who did an awesome job of making this a very authentic event, with the Corp. of Discovery men and all of the event organizers dressed in their historical fashions. With a flint lock gun salute, prayers and dedication of a very grand monument to the people of La Charrette and the stops of Lewis and Clark, at a spot adjoining the French-style cabin, the evening was filled with wine (Thank you Blumenhof Winery at Dutzow), live period music and celebration and great food. Best of all, an open bon-fire to add warmth and wonderfully scented air. It was awesome, and thank you very much to the Lewis and Clark Committee. Thank you to Marthasville Chamber for your support and contribution to the LC Committee too. Great Job everyone!
