How to Submit an Article

1. Go to member log in.

If you are not a member, you will need to become a member before you can contribute. This is Free. You may become a member by going to the Log In and clicking "Become a Big Muddy Member" and go through that short and easy process.

There are two ways to get to the log in page. If you are on The Big Muddy home page, click on the link in the lower right hand corner that says "Become a Member / Log in". Or, if you are on a town/newspaper page you may click on the "Log in now for submission" link.

You will fill in your user name and password and click log in.

2. Once logged in, click Upload News

3. Type the title of your article where indicated

4. Select the town where you want your article to appear

A drop down list will appear. Select the town.

5. Select the appropriate category for your article

A drop down list will appear. Select the category.

6. Type article in the area indicated

Type your article content directly into the text area or if you prefer to create your article in a word processing program, you can copy your article from another program and paste into the text area. To do this, "select" or highlight the body text of your article from your word processing program (Do not include title or your name). With text selected, go up to Edit on the menu bar and select "Copy", your text will be held in memory. You can then minimize that program and then navigate to the Big Muddy upload page and place your cursor in the text area. Go up to Edit on the menu bar, then click "Paste". When your article is in place, click "Send".

Please note that if later, you notice a typo, your article will be editable, so you (and only you, or administrator) can go back in to make corrections, or delete your article altogether.

7. Upload Photo

If you have a photo to upload, click the "Browse" button and navigate to where your photos are stored on your computer and select the photo you wish to upload, Click "Open". When the path appears in the box, click "Send Photo" button. This may take a moment to complete and a window will pop up to tell you when it is complete. Now Click "Finish" and your upload is complete.

If you do not have a photo to upload with your story, simply click "Finish" near the bottom of the photo upload page.

8. You are finished. You will now be directed back to the home page, where you can select the appropriate town to view your story. Congratulations!

Remember, if you see a problem or you need to refine your article, simply log back in and instead of clicking Upload News, click "Edit Your Articles" and a listing of all the articles you have written will appear. Select the one you want to edit and follow the prompts. You may even delete the article.
